Golden nuggets

I was back at the hospital yesterday to be told that my scan results are “excellent”….not a complete elimination of every trace of the cancer (as I knew) but the best results possible. I was told that “excellent” is a standard rarely used for these scan results…so it’s very good news.

I now have to continue with the long-term treatment and hope that it sustains the position…then surgery. The doctor I saw yesterday worked on the Cleopatra clinical trial for pertuzumab (the pricey…very pricey new drug I have been and will continue to be given) and he was extremely positive about it – I have been very lucky to have been prescribed this very new treatment and if I had been diagnosed even a month or so earlier than I was, the drug would not have been available for me to use. I do take on board that the staff of the oncology department are an unusually positive lot given the speciality and whatever the news but Β this has to be a golden nugget moment! So..hang the “incurable” diagnosis for the moment. For once I am in the right place at the right time with the right doctors.

  1. Oh Wend, that’s great to hear. I feel my snorkel has been un-bunged. Doing more cheer-leading and pom-poms are twirling ’round the flat. In my mind’s eye you are doing the same and it creates an interesting image.

  2. This sounds great, Wendy. I hadn’t realised that you’ve been given a new treatment. What a huge difference that can make. I know it’s a hell of a long way to go up the hill, but it may not be feeling quite as steep.

    1. That was novel, dancing with George C! Hadn’t tried that before… Now the major issue seems to be going well…it is time to think about such things as…will I need an entire new wardrobe for after breast surgery? (I guess the NHS may not fund that…) Should I get myself off on holiday before they find some bad news to tell me? Why am I unable to write the novel I want to write?…..and so the days seem to get filled! Hope all’s well with you… Big hugs all round Wxx

      1. No excuses about the novel now Wendy. The convalescence period when you don’t feel very mobile after your surgery will be perfect for writing!
My previous comment saying how pleased I was by your news doesn’t seem to be here so I’m glad I e-mailed as well. I must have failed to post the comment. I’m obviously not very proficient at blogging but never one to give up I’ll now try again!
